The Ceausescu era’s public life was completely transformed by censorship and propaganda. Metaphorical and ambiguous drafting, the publication of party documents, the frequent and exclusive reports on the Ceausescu couple’s activity led to the death of journalistic practice. The free, euphoric period after the revolution managed to transmit only symbolically the free press’s activity, as the next decade’s journalism could not overcome its saturated character. The analysis of the Gheorgheni area journalism is carried out in light of these facts and within the characteristic frames of the Hungarian press in Romania aiming at placing it into context and interpreting the local Hungarian press and its characteristics.
